This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.

Today, we talk about 5-year vet Pius Suter.

    Target: Pius Suter

Suter has bounced around a lot in his 5 NHL seasons, playing for three teams. Now, he'll either re-up in Vancouver or move on to his fourth team in six years.

After going undrafted, Suter would make his NHL debut for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 20-21 season. From there, he would sign with the Detroit Red Wings for two years before leaving for the Vancouver Canucks in 2023.

    Stats

Suter is coming off the best season of his career, scoring 25 goals and totaling 46 points. He also tacked on 5 power-play points and had a plus-2 rating. In 364 career games, Suter has scored 82 goals and 162 points. He is averaging 18 goals and 36 points per 82 games played. He's also only missed 20 games in five seasons.

Suter has 13 playoff games under his belt and has three points.

    Previous Salary

Suter signed a 2 year, $3,200,000 contract with a cap hit of $1,600,000 per season in 2023. Contract experts predict his next contract will be a 4-year deal at $5 million per season.

Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Cold

Pius Suter would be an excellent pick-up for the Jackets, but I can't see it being a good fit. The 28-year-old Swiss Winger from Zurich will be looking to go somewhere to make an impact, and unless the CBJ is looking to move Cole Sillinger down to the fourth line, I just don't see it happening.

The Blue Jackets, for the first time in their history, have a lot of center depth, so adding another like Suter probably wouldn't make sense at this time. Although I do like Suter, we'll probably be watching him against Columbus for the time being.
