This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.

Today, we look at 7-year vet Victor Olofsson.

    Target: Victor Olofsson - RW - Age: 29 - 7 Years Experience

Victor Olofsson was originally a 7th-round pick, chosen by the Buffalo Sabres in 2014, where he spent the first six years of his career. In Buffalo, he totaled 211 points in 370 games, which isn't bad for a 7th-round pick. In the summer of 2024, he decided to leave Buffalo and sign with heavyweight Vegas, where he had a good year for the Golden Knights

Unfortunately, he does have a bit of an injury bug that follows him around. In the four seasons after the COVID seasons, he's never played in 82 games, and only has a max of 75 played.

    Stats

Olofsson played in 56 games last season. He scored 15 points and totaled 29 points while maintaining a plus-17 rating on an outstanding Vegas team. He also chipped in 6 PPG and 18 PP points, and had 4 game-winning goals. He's averaging 47 points per 82 games played.

Before signing with Vegas, Olofsson had never been in the playoffs. This playoff season, he played in nine games and had 4 points, including a game against Edmonton where he had two goals and an assist.

    Previous Salary

Olofsson signed a one-year, $1.075 million contract with Vegas in 2024. Contract experts put his next deal at around 3 years for $3.4 million per season.

Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Warm

This is an intriguing player for me. I feel like Olofsson could be the exact type of bottom-six player Don Waddell would covet - can score goals and provide secondary offense, but also, when given the chance, could slot into the top-six when needed and provide a spark. Think JvR.

He has three 20-goal seasons to his name, including a 28-goal season in 22-23, so he has some scoring ability. He'll be 30 by the time the season starts, so he's not too long in the tooth to not be considered. The question: Would Olofsson ever want to come to Columbus after spending years in Buffalo? He got his first taste of playoff hockey this season, so there's no doubt he's itching for more. A player like Victor Olofsson could be the perfect replacement for Justin Danforth.
