Former Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman David Jiricek is done for the season after suffering a lacerated spleen.
Jiricek, 21, is now a member of the Minnesota Wild's organization. While playing in a game with the Wild's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, Jiricek suffered the injury and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Just last week, I posted an article about Jiricek being a healthy scratch for the Wild in nine straight games. On March 21, he was assigned to the AHL and had only played a handful of games.
Former Blue Jackets Defensemen Having Tough Time With New Team
Former Columbus Blue Jackets blue liner David Jiricek is in a situation he is all too familiar with. He has been a healthy scratch for the last nine games for his new team, the Minnesota Wild.
Unfortunately, his career hasn't played out as many would have hoped. He has struggled to be an everyday NHL player, and after being traded from the Blue Jackets to the Wild, the hope was that he would be able to play in the NHL. That hasn't happened, and now, due to the injury, he won't play in the NHL until next season.
Jiricek has played in 12 NHL games this season, split between both organizations, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points. In the AHL, he has played in 31 games between both teams, recording two goals and eight assists for 10 points.
In his young NHL career, he has played in a total of 59 games, registering two goals and 11 assists for 13 points.
We wish Jiricek a speedy recovery.
