Kirill Marchenko is a budding superstar who had everyone in the league taking notice of his skill this past season. Columbus Blue Jackets fans have found their new favorite player in Marchenko.
He interviewed with RG.org today and had some great things to say, but there's one thing he said that should make fans in Columbus very happy.
The dynamic Russian forward had this to say, “I haven’t thought about leaving. I have a contract, and I’m ready to stay in Columbus. I don’t have any complaints. I love the city, the team, the organization. I’m more than satisfied."
You can read the full interview here. He also had some good things to say about Dean Evason.
“I Haven’t Thought About Leaving Columbus”: Kirill Marchenko Reflects on Breakout Season, Goals for Next Season
Kirill Marchenko reflects on a breakout 2024–25 season, personal growth, team leadership, and his quiet focus heading into next year
Marchenko signed a 3 year, $11,550,000 contract with a cap hit of $3,850,000 per season last July, and he backed it up in a big way this season.
His current deal looks like an absolute steal for Don Waddell.
Playing in 79 games, he scored a career high 31 goals, had a career high 43 assists, and had a career high 74 points. He was a plus-29 and had 19 power-play points to go with it. Did I mention he broke his jaw and only missed a few games?
Kirill Marchenko has another two years left on his contract, and then he'll be a restricted free agent. My guess is Don Waddell will want to get him locked in for 8 years before the offer sheets come rolling in for him. But the good news is that he has two years to figure all that out.
For now, enjoy Kirill Marchenko and his quirks, and hopefully, he does what he says he wants to do - Stay in Columbus.
