Hiring Peter DeBoer to coach helped the team reach the conference final
Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger missed out on winning hardware on Tuesday night's NHL awards in Nashville. But a day later, Jim Nill made up for it by taking home the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award.
Nill beat out Boston's Don Sweeney and Florida's Bill Zito for the award, which was voted on following the second round of the playoffs. For Nill, who was twice previously a finalist, it's a deserving honour.
While the Stars didn't tinker too much with their roster, the decision to replace Rick Bowness wth Peter DeBoer behind the bench paid dividends for a Dallas team that reached the conference final for the second time in four years. Other moves included acquiring Evgeni Dadonov and Max Domi at the trade deadline and re-signing Robertson and Oettinger to team-friendly contracts.
