A Facebook Marketplace listing offering a modest artificial Christmas tree has created an unexpected buzz among Detroit Red Wings fans.
The seller claims that the tree once belonged to former NHL star Pavel Datsyuk, a player widely regarded as one of the most gifted two-way forwards in league history. The listing includes a simple photo of the tree along with a short caption that reads, “free artificial Christmas tree (formerly owned by Red Wings superstar Pavel Datsyuk weirdly enough)."

The claim has spread quickly through the hockey world with many fans are questioning the authenticity of the listing. The seller provided no documentation and no photographic evidence linking the tree to Datsyuk other than the description.
Commenters on the listing expressed amusement with some saying they wish they had seen the ad before getting their Christmas tree for the year. Others joked that if Datsyuk had ever owned the tree, it would somehow have the ability to steal the puck.
Datsyuk played 953 regular season NHL games, scored 314 goals, recorded 604 assists, and finished with 918 points over his career. The Russian superstar won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings in 2002 and 2008 before later being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024.
