Red Wings 2025 fifth-round pick Nikita Tyurin is quickly making a name for himself in Russia, showing signs he could be another late-round gem. The 18-year-old defenseman had an impressive season, winning the Kharlamov Cup in the JHL, earning a KHL debut with Spartak Moscow, and taking home gold at the Challenge Cup.

Tyurin has focused heavily on physical development this offseason, gaining five kilos of muscle as he eyes a full-time KHL role and aims to evolve into a strong, two-way defenseman with creative flair. His maturity, work ethic, and rapid growth have caught the attention of Detroit’s scouting department, and if his trajectory continues, he could become a steal.
