There seems to be some gathering smoke regarding the potential of a deal between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks involving restricted free agent forward Mason McTavish.

McTavish, who recently completed his three-year entry level contract, hasn't been able to agree on a new contract with Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek, a former Red Wings forward and executive who worked under Steve Yzerman in both Detroit and Tampa Bay.

McTavish scored a career-high 22 goals for the Ducks last season, and will soon be entering his prime. He would also represent another forward capable of playing in Detroit's top-six of forward units.

Should Yzerman try and make a deal with his friend Verbeek to bring Mason McTavish to the Red Wings?
