EDMONTON -- Everything takes time.

Whether you are a carpenter learning to make a table or a new Edmonton Oilers player looking to find your place - it doesn't happen overnight.
It takes time to acclimate. All the tricks of the trade don't become muscle memory right away. Similarly, it takes time for players to learn a new team's systems, navigate a new city, and develop chemistry with teammates.
For all intents and purposes, Ty Emberson is coming into his own. He's found a role on the penalty kill and is finding himself on the scoresheet more.
It took a while, but Emberson has been heavily relied upon on the penalty kill. Mattias Ekholm leads their blueline in penalty kill time on ice, averaging 1:59 per game. Emberson is right behind him with 1:44 per game.
The two have been the Oilers' first defense pairing over the boards whenever they are down a man. They have become an anchor for the team.

On Saturday afternoon against the Buffalo Sabres, Emberson notched his ninth assist of the 2024-25 campaign. He fired a shot on the net, which Jeff Skinner used to deposit his eighth goal of the year against his old team.
Over his last eight games, Emberson has recorded four assists.
After seeing him be such a solid defensive addition to this point of the season, it's good news to see the Oilers get some production from their depth on the backend.
While he hasn't replaced the time on-ice workload left behind by the Oilers trading Cody Ceci, he's well on his way. If he continues his solid play, the Oilers could have a 20-minute defender on their hands.
It just took a little time.
