The Los Angeles Kings continued with another preseason win on Thursday, beating the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in overtime.
Pierre-Luc Dubois showed more signs of getting comfortable on the Kings' roster and more chemistry with Kevin Fiala, with the two connecting for the game-opening goal eight minutes in.
With just a few minutes left in the period, the Sharks tied it up with a power-play goal from Alexander Barabanov, leaving the game tied after one.
The teams traded goals again in the second period. Anze Kopitar put the Kings 2-1 up eight minutes in, depositing a nice feed from Drew Doughty in front.
Mike Hoffman then tied the game with just over five minutes left in the period, wiring home a Tomas Hertl rebound from the left faceoff circle.
The Kings grabbing an early lead only to allow the Sharks to battle back was a theme in this game, with the third following the same pattern.
Viktor Arvidsson set up Trevor Moore in front with a nice feed and Moore made no mistake one-timing the puck past Mackenzie Blackwood.
Thomas Bordeleau then tied the game late in the third after forcing a turnover behind the net and receiving a centering feed from William Eklund.
Tempers faired late in the game between the two California rivals. After a hit on Hertl from Dubois, Kyle Burroughs grabbed Dubois which drew a crowd. A handful of players then got engaged and, eventually, Fiala, Hertl, Dubois and Burroughs were all given penalties.
With the game tied, the two teams went to overtime.
There wasn't much free hockey in Utah though, as Adrian Kempe ended things just 17 seconds into overtime.
After collecting a drop pass from Doughty at the top of the right circle, Kempe drifted across the slot and wired a wrist shot over Blackwood's shoulder and in.
The Kings play one more preseason game on Saturday before opening up their season on Oct. 11.
