© Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports - Kings Make a Decision on Their Next Head Coach

The vibes coming out of Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille's end of the season media availability were simple, they're running it back.

Sticking with those vibes, according to a report by Kevin Weekes that the Los Angeles Kings are removing the interim tag on Jim Hiller and making him the official head coach.

The multi-year part of this report has some people surprised, but it shouldn't, I can't think of many coaches signing one-year deals.

If this turns out to be a long-term, five-year commitment, then we can raise serious questions.

For now, a one-or-two-year deal isn't too surprising.

A lot of fans feel this decision shows a lack of ambition from the front office, and I get it.

However, I will point out that the team dramatically improved under Hiller and we haven't really seen what a "Jim Hiller" team looks like.

He took over and didn't rock the boat too much systemically, as was the plan laid out by Blake after hiring Hiller.

In the middle of a season, trying to cling onto a playoff spot, isn't the time to make wholesale changes.

I still don't expect drastic changes from Hiller, but a move away from the 1-3-1 feels likely.

Do I think this organization needed an outside set of eyes behind the bench? Absolutely, and in a way they'll have that with new assistant coaches.

However, I get why the Kings are sticking with Hiller.

Again, assuming this isn't a true long-term contract, it also makes sense for the Kings' timeline.

Another year of failure, not getting past the first round, would almost certainly bring large-scale changes to the organization and Hiller could be a part of that.

The Kings are willing to double-down on the roster they built and their current foundation and Hiller is a part of that.

Like the decision or not, the Kings have at least been consistent with their decisions over the last few weeks.

Hiller's a well hockey mind and it will be interesting to see how he performs as a full-time head coach.

The most interesting thing to watch will be how he changes the Kings systemically.
