We knew the Kings would have to juggle their cap situation and this seems to be the first domino to fall.
We said there would be plenty of changes between last night's roster and the roster that skated out for Wednesday's opener.
Tuesday morning, the Los Angeles Kings waived goaltender David Rittich.
This always seemed like the most likely situation as carrying three goalies instead of a full slate of skaters felt extremely unlikely.
We still aren't sure who will come up in Rittich's place, but I imagine it's one of Jordan Spence or Arthur Kaliyev.
The question now is will Rittich clear? If he doesn't clear, the Kings are in big trouble.
They're then stuck with just two NHL-caliber goalies, meaning an injury or bad form will be killer for the team.
Even if Rittich clears, the Kings aren't in a good spot. If there's an injury but it isn't bad enough to put one of the goalies on LTIR, the Kings won't be able to call up Rittich.
The most likely scenario in my mind is calling up Kaliyev so he can serve his suspensions in the first two games and deal with being down a skater.
An Andreas Englund-Tobias Bjornfot third pairing will be interesting if that's what they go with.
