Wild's intriguing prospect scored his first career AHL goal.

One of the Wild's intriguing prospects scored his first career American Hockey League (AHL) goal on Tuesday.

Matthew Sop was signed to a one-year, one-way AHL contract with the Iowa Wild on June 17, 2024. He started the 2024-25 season with the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL.

In 12 games for the Heartlanders, Sop recorded seven goals, 12 assists, and 19 points. He was recalled by the Iowa Wild recently and has played eight games in the AHL.

He has notched one goal, two assists, and three points in those eight games and just scored his first career AHL goal on Tuesday.

Sop, 21, recorded 43 goals, 47 assists, and 90 points in 67 games with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL during the 2023-24 season.

The 6-foot forward received the Leo Lalonde Trophy as the OHL’s Overage Player of the Year following his 90 point season. In five years in the OHL, Sop has recorded 76 goals, 93 assists, and 169 points in 203 games.

He is off to a good start in the AHL. Should be interesting to keep tabs on Sop.
