While the Lammikko signing was one of the Devils' smaller moves of this off-season, he is a player who fans should keep an eye on during training camp. The possibility of him sneaking onto the Devils' NHL roster is there, especially if he puts together a solid camp.
Although Lammikko is not the flashiest of players, his steady defensive play and grit could allow him to get some chances on the Devils' roster this campaign. The Devils have spots to fight for in their bottom six, so the 2014 third-round pick could very well make a case to start the season on New Jersey's fourth line.
Lammikko last played at the NHL level during the 2021-22 season with the Vancouver Canucks. In 75 games with the Pacific Division club that campaign, he recorded seven goals, 15 points, 17 takeaways, and 93 hits. Before then, he spent the 2018-19 season and then the 2020-21 season with the Florida Panthers, where he recorded four goals, 11 points, and 95 hits in 84 games over that span.
Lammikko is coming off a good 2024-25 season with Zurich of the Swiss National League, as he posted 13 goals, 38 points, and a plus-23 rating in 48 games. It will now be interesting to see if he can build off his solid season to earn a spot on the Devils' NHL roster from here.
