Sam Rosen doesn't want to "go" and nobody in Rangerville wants Sam to be anything but "around."
He doesn't have to be in the MSG Networks TV booth where he hung out for a good – make that excellent – forty years. That's over and out with Kenny Albert and Dave Maloney taking over for 2025-26.
But Sam plans to be over and IN – not like Flynn but like Rosen – with a number of arresting projects. Call him the Rangers' "Goodwill Ambassador" because that title fits him to a T or a B as in Blueshirt.
In an exclusive interview with my colleague Remy Mastey, Sam revealed two fascinating projects-of-the-future.
1. SAM ROSEN'S BOOK: Brooklyn's gift to play-by-play hasn't decided which angle he takes – there are endless possibilities – but whatever it is, The Maven promises that it will be an automatic best-seller.
2. A SAM-J.D. PODCAST: I have to believe that a Rosen-John Davidson duet would be the bagels-and-cream cheese of podcasting. And those of you who remember the duet in MSG Networks action know what The Maven is talking about.
3. ROVING HISTORIAN: Sam is a better story-teller than Aesop and Grimm put together. The Garden should hook Rosen up with its favorite charity and have him work a booth at a home game once a month; proceeds to something akin to Cheering For Children or Sam's favorite charity.
Sam told Remy Mastey that bossman Chris Drury personally invited him to maintain his Rangers citizenship by staying close to the team or – in other words – be among our souvenirs; live version, of course.
If I was Jimmy Dolan, who knows a lot more about show biz than Matt Rempe, I'd bill the act, LIVE WITH SAM ROSEN.
I may even loan Sam a couple of my penguin gags.
