Once again, the longtime Penguins' captain will have a chance to lead Canada on the international scene, vying for a fourth gold medal in four tries
With the first-ever 4 Nations Face-off tournament just a few weeks away, team captains for Sweden, Finland, USA, and Canada were announced throughout the day on Thursday.
And the longtime Pittsburgh Penguins captain earned the honor yet again.
Sidney Crosby - to no one's surprise - was named the captain for Team Canada's 4 Nations squad, which will feature the likes of Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Cale Makar.
McDavid and Makar will be the alternates for Team Canada.
This is the fourth time Crosby has been selected to captain a Canadian international team, with the most recent being for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. His other two came at the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi and at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in 2015.
Crosby captained all three of those teams to gold medals.
The captains for the other three teams are Victor Hedman (Sweden), Aleksander Barkov (Finland), and Auston Matthews (USA). Penguins teammate Erik Karlsson was named an alternate for Team Sweden.
The 4 Nations Face-off will begin on Feb. 12 in Montreal, with the first game being an 8:00 p.m. ET matchup between Team Canada and Team Sweden. The four teams will face off between Montreal and Boston in round-robin style leading up to the championship.
The championship game will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20 with an 8:00 p.m. faceoff at T.D. Garden in Boston. You can follow all the action on The Hockey News.
