Welcome to the San Jose Sharks 2025 Mock Draft.

The 2025 NHL Draft is almost here, and with it comes a long list of unknowns. Will a trade shake up the top of the board? Will a team take a big swing to move up or down? Could we see a surprise name go earlier than expected? There’s a lot of chatter, and if recent moves are any indication, we might be in for an eventful 24 hours. Everyone around the league seems to feel like something unexpected is coming, and San Jose could be right in the middle of it.

This year, the Sharks own a total of nine picks. The only round they are without a pick is the sixth. They have two first-rounders, their own and the Dallas Stars' from the Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci trade. They also own two second-rounders, their own and the Ottawa Senators’ from the Fabian Zetterlund trade. They don't have their own third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh. However, they do have the Edmonton Oilers' third, St. Louis Blues' and Winnipeg Jets' fourth, the Colorado Avalanche's fifth, and the New Jersey Devils' seventh. Honestly, with how the last few days have gone, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the Sharks try and acquire a few more picks, either for players or trying to move up or down in the draft. That’s something GM Mike Grier hasn’t been shy about exploring.

Sharks Buyout Marc-Édouard Vlasic Sharks Buyout Marc-Édouard Vlasic The San Jose Sharks have been expected to make some roster changes this summer, and one of them came in the form of a buyout on Thursday (Jun. 26) when they placed Marc-Édouard Vlasic on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

For the first-round picks, I went with Misa over Anton Frondell. I understand the hype around Frondell, but I think Misa fits better. He had a great draft year and wants to be drafted by the Sharks to be a part of their rebuild. I also went with Brzustewicz, who was Sam Dickinson's defense partner with the Knights. If the Sharks could find a way to reunite them, it could be very beneficial—both on the power play and in five-on-five situations.

For the second round, I went with Zonnon, who the Sharks could very well pick in the first round with the 30th pick. However, since it is just three picks later at 33, it still could be possible. I also liked Simon Wong, but since they took Brzustewicz, it makes sense to grab a power forward in Zonnon. I also chose Ivankovic, who will be passed over despite being very skilled due to his size. San Jose shouldn't make that mistake—they should draft him and let him be the next Dustin Wolf.

After that, I tried to target big defensemen that can play on the back end alongside their speedy, skilled forward group. That is why I chose Passmore, Vilchinskiy, and Mathieu, who are all over 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. Lastly, the selections of Sykora and Kevan are to add organizational depth. Both of them had good years in their respective leagues, and if given time to develop, that could translate very well to the pro level. Yes, they will likely take some time in the AHL to season, but when they are ready, they could both be very solid depth pieces. That kind of development is exactly what this organization needs to keep building a strong, sustainable roster.

The 2025 NHL Draft goes Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. I'll have all the draft coverage for you here at The Hockey News.
