Editor's Note: Before we discuss 2025, a note about 2024:
We already know the Seattle Kraken's AHL farm team can handle the spotlight. In their inaugural season of 2022-23, the Coachella Valley Firebirds hosted five playoff rounds, including three games in the Calder Cup finals.
As Allison Williams of SeattleMet.com put it, "Best known for midcentury architecture and celebrity sightings, Palm Springs has a new facet to its identity: sports town. The Firebirds' 5,800 season ticket holders, the most in the AHL, rival some NHL teams in number."
Eleven months from now, the Firebirds will play host to another showcase event - the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic.
“In just 15 short months, the Firebirds have established themselves as one of the American Hockey League’s premier franchises, and Acrisure Arena is a crown jewel among AHL facilities,” said AHL President Scott Howson in a press release.
Firebirds VP John Page added, “It is an unbelievable privilege to be chosen in our second season, and a true testament to the vision of our ownership to build a world-class venue that will serve the Coachella Valley community for years to come."
The two-day event will include a skills competition on Sunday, February 2. AHL Hall of Fame inductions and Awards Ceremony take place Monday, February 3, with the All-Star Challenge that evening.

While we're discussing the Firebirds, they currently sit 4th in the AHL's 10-team Western Division. With a record of 18-10-3, their 39 points are six behind the division-leading Calgary Wranglers.
Overall, Coachella Valley is 9th best in the 32-team AHL, 3-0-1 in their last four games. They have the #13 power play and #20 penalty kill.
Max McCormick is tied for the team lead with 26 points, and is tied for the lead with 2022 1st rounder Shane Wright in goals with 13.
Coachella Valley plays next Wednesday night in San Diego against the Gulls.
