ST. LOUIS -- Playing for a new coach in his first game on Thursday trying to break a four-game losing streak, if the St. Louis Blues were going to change the ongoings of the past 48 hours, their top players were going to have to step up to the plate.
Robert Thomas did his part on Thursday with two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win against the Ottawa Senators at Enterprise Center on Thursday.
Thomas, who has 13 points (six goals, seven assists) the past 12 games, scored the first two goals and was a catalyst on the top line when Bannister reunited Pavel Buchnevich and Jordan Kyrou there.
The trio combined for six points, with Thomas, who leads the Blues in goals (12), assists (18) and points (30) in 28 games, helping the Blues get back to .500 (14-14-1), attributed the game to playing hard for their new coach.
"I think it was a great game by everyone," Thomas said. "We came together as a team. Everyone did a great job from start to finish. ... The whole game I thought we played great. Kudos to everyone.
"I think the biggest thing we had each other's backs out there. You could see it on the ice. ... We were there for one another. We killed plays. We had each other's backs. It was a fun brand of hockey to play and we're excited in the direction we're going."
