ST. LOUIS -- Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Didn't we do this on Thursday?
If good things are said about Blues goalie Jordan Binnington, chances are the St. Louis Blues are doing things the right way.
For the second straight game, the Blues' tendy was the backbone among a group of quality players in a 2-1 shootout win against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday in the home opener and was our player of the game.
After doing all he could to get the Blues a hard-earned point with 33 saves in a 2-1 shootout loss against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, Binnington was at it again on Saturday.
What stood out to me was his rebound control. I know coach Craig Berube liked the fact the defensive scheme didn't allow the Kraken to get to second and third chances to score, but a lot of that had to do with Binnington's ability to not dish out pucks in high-grade rebound opportunities.
In two games, Binnington has stopped 63 of 65 shots and carries a 0.92 goals-against average with a .969 save percentage.
So far, so good for a guy that's been predicted to be on the decline.
The save on Seattle defenseman Adam Larsson with 28 seconds left in overtime enabled the Blues to earn the chance to fight for that extra point, and his aggressiveness in challenging Matty Beniers, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jordan Eberle in the shootout helped gain the second point and give the Blues three of a possible four points.
