NHL insider Elliotte Friedman believes the Lightning could target this Sabres forward.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the many teams fighting for a playoff spot in the tight Eastern Conference. Due to this, there is an expectation that they will look to add to their roster before the 2025 NHL trade deadline passes.

In his latest 32 Thoughts column, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman specifically mentioned the Lightning as a team he could see targeting Buffalo Sabres winger Alex Tuch if he is made available.

When looking at the Lightning's roster, it would make a lot of sense for them to target a high-impact forward like Tuch. They undoubtedly need an upgrade at the second-line right wing spot, and Tuch would provide just that if acquired.

Tuch, 28, is once again having a solid season with the Sabres. In 53 games, the 6-foot-4 winger has 18 goals, 40 points, and a plus-15 rating. This is after he had 22 goals and 59 points in 75 games with Buffalo last season.

If the Lightning acquired Tuch, he would also be more than a rental. This is because he is under contract until the end of next season, carrying a very reasonable $4.75 million cap hit. This naturally adds to his appeal.

Nevertheless, Tuch would be an outstanding addition to the Lightning's roster if acquired. However, given his importance to the Sabres' roster, it would take a lot for Buffalo to even consider moving the star. This is especially so with Tampa Bay and Buffalo being in the same division.
