Now that roughly one week has passed since July 1, the majority of this year's notable unrestricted free agents (UFAs) have signed new contracts. However, there are players who still have not found their new homes, and two of them are former Tampa Bay Lightning forwards.
Lightning forwards Luke Glendening and Cam Atkinson remain UFAs at this juncture of the off-season after the Bolts elected not to re-sign them before the start of this month.
While Glendening is not the flashiest of players, there is a chance that he will land with another team if he wishes to continue his NHL career. Teams looking for help on their fourth line could consider signing him, as he is a dependable defensive forward who kills penalties and thrives at the faceoff dot. In 77 games this past season with the Lightning, he had four goals, seven points, and 105 hits. He also won 57% of his faceoffs.
The possibility of Atkinson landing a one-year, prove-it deal should also not be ruled out. While the 36-year-old winger had a down season with the Lightning, his past success could lead to a team calling. In 39 games this past season with the Bolts, he recorded four goals and nine points.
It will be interesting to see if Glendening and Atkinson end up getting contracts from another club for the 2025-26 season from here.
Exciting Lightning Forward Should Hit New Level
Earlier this off-season, the Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed forward Gage Goncalves to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.2 million. This was an important move for the Lightning to make, as Goncalves emerged as a solid part of their roster this past season.
