The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they will be launching their first-ever Girls Only Rec League this spring. The league is comprised of 30 girls, ages 7-10, and will be played out of Power Pole Arena.
This league is the first ever Girls Rec League to be launched out of the Tampa Bay area and will consist of 10 weeks of practices and 8 weeks of games. Each practice is run by US Women’s National Team alum and World Champion Kelley Steadman. They will focus on positioning, face-offs, game rules, and team strategy.
Steadman is a 3x World Champion with Team USA, a CWHL champion, a former Buffalo Beauts star and a Mercyhurst hockey alum. She also has over 7 years of Div. 1 Women's College Hockey coaching experience and over 10 years of experience as a private skills instructor.
The addition of this Girls Rec League expands the Girls Hockey Path to Play ecosystem within the Tampa Bay Lightning Girls Development programming and allows for continued development of the Girls Hockey game in the Tampa Bay area.
“I couldn’t be more excited about the start of our Girls Only Rec League and about how much the game of girls hockey has already grown in the area,” said Steadman. “I feel really lucky to be able to work for an organization that prioritizes the growth of the girls game and is supportive of new initiatives like this one. This Rec league will allow girls to continue to develop as hockey players, but most importantly, grow as individuals as they learn teamwork, humility, and how to have a ton of fun playing the sport they love.”
