The Lightning came back strong in the third period, scoring 5 goals to put them on top.
The Lightning put together a massive third period last night to come from behind and defeat the Edmonton Oilers 7-4.
Steven Stamkos netted his first career four-goal night and his 200th career power-play goal. Three of those goals came during the third period alone.
As we’ve often seen happen throughout the season, the Lightning came out strong. They ended the first period with a 2-0 lead but there was a drop-off between the first and second period. The buffer they built up, started to slip away quickly when Edmonton scored three unanswered goals.
Down 3-2, the Lightning struggled to get out of their own zone cleanly, giving up most of their five-on-five possession time. The night appeared to be moving in a direction that has become all too familiar..a hot start that slowly fades away with turnovers.
Then the team came alive…
The Lightning recorded five goals alone in the third period between Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Anthony Cirelli. In turn, Andrei Vasilevskiy reminded everyone why he’s the best goalie in the world, making 53 saves which is his second-highest total in a regular season game.
Kucherov became the first player this season to reach 50 points and set a franchise mark for most points through 30 games of a season.
The win ended Edmonton’s red hot eight-game win streak. The Bolts have one more opportunity to end this road trip with more points than games when they face Calgary on Saturday night.
