On Tuesday night, the Lightning looked to be a different team than the one that got swept 6-0 in Raleigh at the beginning of March
Although the Lightning left Boston with a 2-1 loss on Saturday, they played well enough to create opportunities. To them, that was a step in the right direction.
March panned out to be a rollercoaster of a month for the Lightning. Over the past 33 days, the Lightning skated in 19 games, the most over a 33-day stretch in franchise history. The team also played four back-to-backs during that time.
Two huge wins in New Jersey gave them a glimmer of hope, but the following week provided three losses in a row. There was a different energy in Boston though, one we haven’t seen from the Lightning since the All Star Break. Nine seconds into the game, the energy went to ten as a scrum broke out between Ross Colton and Jakub Lauko. The gloves flew off and it was GAME TIME. They went on to trail the Bruins 2-1.
"The loss doesn't feel great, but that kind of passion I think is what we've missed a little bit," said Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. "That was awesome to watch, awesome to play. I think that was a great answer from those two games that we had before. Everyone checked in right away. It was a good game."
On Tuesday night, the Lightning looked to be a different team than the one that got swept 6-0 in Raleigh at the beginning of the month.
They took another step in the right direction in having one of their best performances of the year as they shut out the Hurricanes, 4-0.
Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point both registered three points. Mikhail Sergachev took sole possession of the 6th-most points and 4th-most assists by a defenseman in a single season in Tampa Bay Lightning history.
They limited Carolina’s scoring chances, won puck battles, and cleared the puck from their defensive zone. Defending is what has brought them so much success this time of year for the past 3 years.
With seven games left in the regular season, the Lightning will look to clinch their sixth consecutive trip to the postseason and fifteenth trip overall in franchise history.
