The Vancouver Canucks have 45 points through their first 39 games.

Analytics sites are taking note of the Vancouver Canucks recent struggles. While the Canucks currently hold the second wild card spot, the team has a record of 3-3-4 in their last ten games and has only one regulation win in their previous nine. If the team can't find some consistency and continue to drop points, it could be yet another year of no playoffs in Vancouver.

MoneyPuck is one of the analytics sites that provides daily playoff odds. As of the morning of January 7, 2025, the Canucks sat at 25.5%  chance of making the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is a massive dip from the 40.1% odds they had on January 5, before they fell in overtime to the Montréal Canadiens.

The reason Vancouver's odds dipped so dramatically is because the Canucks are projected to finish the season with between 87 and 88 points. For reference, last year, the Minnesota Wild finished with 87 points and was ranked tenth in the Western Conference. Vancouver was also given a 0.1% of winning the division this season and a 0.2% of capturing the Stanley Cup.

While these odds don't seal the Canucks fate this season, they are a good reminder that Vancouver's spot in the postseason is not guaranteed. They also show that the Canucks current gameplan is not working, as MoneyPuck runs thousands of simulations in order to determine their odds. With just over half the season to go, something needs to change quickly to ensure Vancouver can build off last year's success rather than take a step back.
