Two of three Canucks prospects played on Friday.

On the second day of the 2025 World Juniors, two of three Vancouver Canucks prospects took part in the tournament’s games. Team Canada’s Sawyer Mynio was not registered to start the tournament, and sat out tonight in the team’s game against Latvia. However, fans still got to see Team Switzerland’s Basile Sansonnens and Team Sweden’s Tom Willander. Keep scrolling to read about the two prospects’ games from December 27.

Basile Sansonnens - Team Switzerland

Sansonnens was the first Canucks prospect to play on Friday, as Team Switzerland faced off against Slovakia at 10 a.m. PST. Switzerland almost got their first win of the tournament, as the game was tied 1–1 after a goal by Eric Schneller. However, Slovakia’s Jan Chovan, who is draft eligible in 2025, scored with 3:18 left in the third period. Sansonnens has yet to register a point in the tournament, but has the opportunity to do so in his game against fellow Canuck prospect Willander and Team Sweden on December 29.

Tom Willander - Team Sweden

Willander and Team Sweden were next up on December 27. They took on Kazhakstan at 2 p.m. PST, getting off to an early 5–0 lead after one period. Willander collected his second assist of the tournament off Sweden’s opening goal. He played 20:56 throughout the entire game, which was the most of all of Sweden’s skaters. Team Sweden went on to win the game 8–1, putting up a grand total of 52 shots against Kazhakstan’s Nikitin Vladimir.
