Welcome to The Weekly Rewind, a column published every Monday that recaps the past week of Vancouver Canucks hockey, including the team’s record, players with the highest stats, and more. This week, we’ll be looking at what the Canucks got up to from January 6 to 12, 2025.

Vancouver started their week with their first game of a five-game road trip. They began with a 5–4 overtime loss against the Montréal Canadiens on Monday, in which Canucks captain Quinn Hughes made his return to the lineup. It was the star defenceman’s 400th NHL game, and in it, he had two assists. Despite his efforts, he was unable to help guide his team to a win.

The road trip resumed in D.C., where the Canucks took on the Washington Capitals. Vancouver’s efforts looked much better against the Capitals, as the team arguably controlled play better than their opponents. However, the game ended the same way that all of them seemingly have in the past little while — with yet another loss in overtime. With a final score of 2–1 for Washington, Vancouver continued on to their next stop.

On Friday, the Canucks faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes in the first of a back-to-back. It looked as though Vancouver would get a boost in strength, as Elias Pettersson and Thatcher Demko both slotted back into the lineup for this game. With that being said, the team put up a total of 14 shots on Hurricanes goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Carolina’s two-goal effort was enough to keep the Canucks at bay, as they shut out Vancouver 2–0.

The woes continued off the ice for Vancouver, as after the game, they were unable to leave Carolina until the next day due to bad weather. They ended up arriving in Toronto with only a few hours before their Hockey Night in Canada matchup. With all the odds stacked against them, it was only fitting that Vancouver posted a 3–0 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs off a defensively-sound performance. In this game, Kevin Lankinen posted his fourth shutout of the season.
