    Capitals On The Hockey News
    Jan 11, 2024, 16:25

The Capitals captain left the ice surface a couple of times during the morning skate.

The Washington Capitals will have to wait and see if two of their top forwards will be ready to go for Thursday against the Seattle Kraken, as Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson are both game-time decisions.

Head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters that Ovechkin would take warmups, while Wilson was to be determined based on how his broken nose felt.

Ovechkin took part in some of the optional morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, competing in some drills before speaking with coaches and leaving. He returned to do some more skating, but left the ice again, per NHL.com's Tom Gulitti. Wilson didn't skate.

The Russian has been hurting since Friday when he suffered a lower-body injury in a collision with Jordan Staal. He took maintenance days on Saturday and Tuesday and was a game-time decision back on Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings, but ultimately played. He did skills work on Wednesday but did not join the group for the main practice or skate in the ASHA clinic he hosted.

Wilson broke his nose at the end of Sunday's win over the Kings after taking the butt-end of Alex Laferriere's stick to the face but finished the game. After taking off on Tuesday, he returned to practice on Wednesday in a full face shield. He will likely be in the "fishbowl" again on Thursday if he plays.

With Ovechkin and Wilson questionable, Hendrix Lapierre and Matthew Phillips are the two that could draw in. Both were interchanged in Ovechkin's spot on the first line on Wednesday during rushes.

In other injury news, T.J. Oshie will return after missing the last three weeks with an upper-body injury. Sonny Milano remains out, as does Rasmus Sandin, as both deal with respective upper-body ailments. Milano remains in a non-contact jersey, and Sandin didn't skate.
