WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals have brought in another young forward with Nic Dowd still ailing and Sonny Milano dealing with an illness, as Hendrix Lapierre is up to show what he can do in the NHL.
Washington recalled Lapierre from the AHL's Hershey Bears on Sunday ahead of the tilt with the San Jose Sharks, while placing Dowd on the injured reserve. Head coach Spencer Carbery said that Dowd will be "a little bit" as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury suffered at the start of the season. The move could also indicate that Milano isn't good to go for Sunday.
Lapierre has been centering Hershey's third line this season, skating with Ivan Miroshnichenko and Pierrick Dube. He has three assists in six games this season.
Last season, he had 15 goals and 15 assists in 60 games in his rookie AHL campaign and scored the game-tying goal in Game 7 of the Calder Cup Final to help the Bears force overtime, where Mike Vecchione would score to secure the title for Hershey.
This will be the first time Lapierre, 21, has played in the NHL since his six-game stint up with the Capitals to open the 2021-22 season following a standout training camp.
Washington plays San Jose on Sunday, and Lapierre could get to draw in then if Milano can't play.
