ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals saw a positive sign on the injury front on Tuesday, as Joel Edmundson took the ice in a non-contact sweater ahead of practice.
Edmundson, who is recovering from a broken hand, was skating in a power blue jersey ahead of the skate, stickhandling and mainly focusing on getting his feet moving. He wasn't focused too much on shooting the puck but did practice some shots along the boards.
It was the second time he's been seen skating with the team since suffering the fracture in a non-game scrimmage in the first weekend of training camp.
The 6-foot-5 defenseman underwent hand surgery on Sept. 26 and had a timeline of 4-6 weeks. He was placed on the long-term injured reserve on Monday with Charlie Lindgren day-to-day and the team needing to recall backup goaltender Clay Stevenson in the interim. Edmundson now has to miss at least 10 games (he's already missed two) and 24 games of action.
Meanwhile, Lindgren did not take the ice for practice. He is listed as day-to-day after suffering an injury during the Capitals' optional morning skate ahead of Monday's game against the Calgary Flames.
Stevenson remains up in D.C. and is working with Darcy Kuemper, who returned after missing the home opener on Friday following the birth of his first son, Caden.
