ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals will begin their 2024 Stanley Cup Playoff run on Sunday in Manhattan, as they take on the New York Rangers in the opening round of the postseason.
Washington and New York play at 3 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
The Capitals secured their playoff spot with a thrilling 2-1 win thanks to a game-winning empty-net goal from T.J. Oshie. Meanwhile, New York secured the Presidents' Trophy.
“Unreal," captain Alex Ovechkin said of D.C. returning to the posteason. "It’s special, you know? That’s why we play hockey, you want to be in that kind of atmosphere and we beat pretty good teams to be able to make it.”
Washington will practice on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before facing the Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
The full schedule will be released at a later date.
Games 1 and 2 will be on the road before D.C. hosts Games 3 and 4 at Capital One Arena.
