The Washington Capitals are still monitoring T.J. Oshie following a non-contact injury on Thursday that led to him crawling off the ice and ultimately being helped to the dressing room, head coach Spencer Carbery said in a new update on Friday.
Oshie did not take part in Saturday's practice in Florida and is not expected to play on Saturday against the Panthers.
"I don't think this is skating today or tomorrow situation," Carbery said, being wary of his word choice with the team still monitoring No. 77. "I don't want to tell you anything definitively on timeline or anything like that, just we'll continue to monitor."
When asked if it was less serious than originally thought, he said "yes and no," adding that it's "too early to tell."
Oshie suffered a non-contact injury in the third period of Thursday's win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, as he turned and went to pass before appearing to hurt something. He went down in visible pain and crawled to the bench before ultimately sliding down and being helped to the locker room.
It's unclear what the nature of the injury is or the exact severity. The Capitals return home from the road on Monday, where there may be more information made as he's further evaluated.
Oshie was skating in his 996th career NHL game and had extended his point streak to three games prior to the injury. Through 38 games this season, Oshie has 10 goals and eight assists.
The 37-year-old was roughly over a month into his return from two separate injuries that held him out for a good amount of time in late November and December.
With Oshie out, Carbery said there is a good chance that Pierrick Dubé will make his NHL debut.
