The Capitals will go with Darcy Kuemper in net against the Anaheim Ducks.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery is keeping internal conversations within the room, but he did note that he and goaltender Darcy Kuemper have talked "quite a bit" with Charlie Lindgren starting to take the reins between the pipes.
Kuemper will get the start on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks following back-to-back starts for Charlie Lindgren, who has all but taken the No. 1 spot going forward.
Regarding the team's approach, Carbery said that he has sat down to speak with the veteran netminder about Lindgren getting more starts, including both games of a back-to-back against the top-ranked New York Rangers.
"Open lines of communications, why we're making decisions, thought process, I never shy away from that," Carbery explained. "I'll be an open book when it comes to why we or I make decisions when it comes to who's starting. Sometimes they agree with it, sometimes they don't, but they'll always know why and the rationale between right and wrong."
Kuemper has struggled to find consistency this season, going 10-10-2 with a .891 save percentage and 3.27 GAA, the worst numbers of his career to date.
Lindgren, who has a .929 save percentage in 19 appearances, stands by his goalie partner, though, and had nothing but good things to say as he explained that the numbers don't tell the full story.
"Statistics, sometimes they don't exactly portray the way you're actually playing... Darcy's a guy that's played hundreds of games in this league," Lindgren said. He's been an elite goalie at this level for a long time, and so I think I've learned a lot from Darcy. I think Darcy's one of the best goalies in the NHL."
As the 33-year-old makes his return to the crease, Carbery wants him to not only remain confident but go out and do what he does best.
"Just (have) a solid start," Carbery said. "Nothing outside the realm. Just be solid, be the guy he is."
