The Washington Capitals are in the midst of an extended offseason, one where they're making their way down a lengthy to-do list while their AHL-affiliate Hershey Bears are inching closer to the Calder Cup.
Washington is in the midst of interviews for their next head coach, and the process could be speeding up sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, the team must consider some moves as it approaches a summer that'll surely be sure of changes. And, as for the players, they're spending their offseasons in different ways.
Here's a wrap-up of all the latest Capitals news and notes.
- The search for a new bench boss might be heating up in D.C., with Washington reportedly the "team to beat" with regard to Spencer Carbery while others have also interviewed. Here's the latest on the Capitals head coaching search. (THN)
- Meanwhile, the team could be looking to make some moves this summer, and considering how the Matthew Tkachuk deal worked out for the Florida Panthers, general manager Brian MacLellan may want to make a splash. (THN)
- How big the splash could be remains to be seen, but could a name like William Nylander be worth at least a phone call? (THN)
- One thing's certain: Tom Wilson doesn't appear to be one of the names on the table right now for Washington. (THN)
- Rasmus Sandin's run at the IIHF Worlds came to an end after a tough knee injury. (THN)
- Another edition of "Crash The Net," where I share my journey to becoming a Capitals reporter. (THN)
- I also mic'd myself up and discussed my first career goal and got some insight on the beauty of goal-scoring and being a captain with help from one of the greatest to ever do it: Alex Ovechkin.
- Hershey is in the midst of a rough-and-tumble Eastern Conference Finals showdown with the Rochester Americans. Connor McMichael continues to show his strength, and Ethen Frank spent a game as a healthy scratch.
- One player that continues to impress me: Beck Malenstyn. He looks NHL-ready.
- Todd Nelson, meanwhile, is proving to be quite the bench boss and may be worth the look for D.C. if the club chooses to slow down the process, though it appears things are picking up.
- In fun times, with time to kill early in the offseason, Wilson appears to have tried his hand at beekeeping with his dad.
