WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals went all out to honor T.J. Oshie.
The Capitals used Sunday's game against the Winnipeg Jets to pay tribute to the 37-year-old, who hit the 1,000-game mark back on March 16 against the Vancouver Canucks.
Capital One Arena was decked out in signage for Oshie, including the team's "TJ1K" hashtag to celebrate the milestone.
Washington's players entered the arena wearing custom "Oshie 1,000 games played" shirts, and for warmups, every player took the ice wearing his No. 77.
Oshie's three daughters and son also watched warmups from the bench and read the starting lineup.
But that's not all.
Washington held a pregame ceremony for Oshie, paying tribute to hitting 1K and had quite a few surprises for No. 77, including a video with Braden Holtby, Nicklas Backstrom and more congratulating Oshie. His mother, brother and sister and wife and kids were on the ice for the ceremony.
Oshie was presented with a commemorative Tiffany crystal from the league, a silver stick commemorating 1,000 games (and silver mini-sticks for his kids) and a custom handpainted Oshie Capitals jersey featuring a painting of him hosting the Stanley Cup from the organization and a custom "TJ1K" putter from his teammates.
Backstrom, who has been on indefinite leave due to his hip, also came out onto the ice to celebrate with Oshie and present him with the putter, joining Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson. All teammates, including Backstrom, Tom Wilson and other scratches, took a photo with Oshie to celebrate.
Oshie has spent nine years in the District, picking up 379 points in his time with the Capitals. He also helped the team to its first Stanley Cup in 2018.
No. 77 is known as the glue that keeps his team together, and his impact was made even more clear
