Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry has been labelled week-to-week with an upper-body injury by head coach Scott Arniel.
Lowry has played in all 48 games prior to his injury this season, scoring 11 goals and 26 points. His leadership and defensive abilities have propelled the Jets to their outstanding record and his absence will be greatly felt.
The 31-year-old has been winning 51.8% of his face-offs this season, has thrown 88 hits and blocked 41 shots. At 5-on-5 the Jets outshoot, outscore and generate more high danger chances with Lowry on the ice. His ability to shut down their opponent's best player is a trait no one on the Jets will be able to do as well as Lowry.
Arniel said Lowry's injury is "a big loss." With the immediate week-to-week labelling, it won't be shocking to see Lowry land on the injured reserve to open up a roster spot for Mason Appleton and Haydn Fleury, who are both in line to return to the Jets lineup tonight, to be activated off of the IR.
Dominic Toninato will likely be sent down to the AHL to play with the Manitoba Moose to allow the Jets to be under the 23-man roster limit.
