Newfoundland product Adam Pardy joins Growlers' staff as development coach.

Former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Adam Pardy has been named a development coach for the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers.

The Growlers, who serve as the ECHL affiliate for the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, also announced the signing of fellow NHL veteran Matt Cooke as the team's head coach.

The 39-year-old Pardy made a name for himself in the early years of the Jets' 2.0 return to Winnipeg.

He infamously ended up having his helmet taken by a drunken fan at the Madhouse on Madison on an early-November day in the Windy City.

He played 10 years in the show, suiting up for over 300 games. Beginning with the Calgary Flames, Pardy worked his way through Dallas, Buffalo, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Nashville before ending up with the Growlers, to which he won the Kelly Cup as ECHL champion in 2018-19.

The Newfoundland product was a physical defenceman in his playing days, to which he amassed 269 penalty minutes to go alongside his four goals and 52 points in 342 regular season NHL games.

He suited up in 129 games with Winnipeg, where he had 16 points and 86 penalty minutes. He scored his only goal with the team in the postseason, in one of his two playoff games with the Jets, and one of eight total NHL postseason games.

Now back with the Growlers, Pardy will look to help his club back to the ECHL postseason after another strong outing in 2022-23. Newfoundland kicks off the 2023-24 season on Friday, October 20 at home against the Reading Royals.
