Yorkton, Saskatchewan's Brett Kemp has agreed to terms on a standard professional tryout contract with the Manitoba Moose - the nearest geographical AHL club to his hometown.

The American Hockey League deal will allow the 23-year-old Kemp to play as many as 25 games with the club, before Manitoba needs to turn his tryout into a season-long contract, or submit his release.

It is highly unlikely he remains with the Moose for the duration of the season, as Manitoba's forward group is expected to get some help back from the Jets as injured players return to the fold. But stranger things have happened.

Kemp has five goals and 17 points in 13 games with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL this season. He has also spent time with fellow AHL club, the San Jose Barracuda. In his 14 games with San Jose, Kemp has a goal and five points.

Before going pro, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward laced up in 255 WHL games for the Everett Silvertips, Edmonton Oil Kings and Medicine Hat Tigers, to which he scored 96 times and added 122 assists.

Prior to this news, the team also announced it had recalled fellow forward Thomas Caron from the Norfolk Admirals. In 29 ECHL games this season, the 23-year-old has put up five goals and 14 points.

The Jets have also sent help, as injured forward Rasmus Kupari has cleared his medical examination and has been sent down to the Moose for a two-week conditioning stint in hopes of getting his legs and lungs up to NHL game caliber after nearly two months of rest following an upper-body injury.

Manitoba hits the road for a Wednesday evening contest against the Belleville Senators at 6:00 PM central. That game can be viewed live on AHL TV.
