The 2023-2024 OHL Regular Season is coming to an end, and today we have the last five games on the slate.
And yet somehow, no playoff matchups have been established.
Here are today's matchups:
Peterborough vs. North Bay at 2:00pm
Brantford vs. Ottawa at 2:00pm
Saginaw vs Soo at 2:07pm
Guelph vs. London at 4:00pm
Sudbury vs. Oshawa at 6:05pm
The Eastern Conference standings have been unbelievably tight all season long, and it will truly come down to the final game to establish playoff matchups. There are still only 7 points that separate 1st and 6th, and the top five teams can still shift around quite a bit.
Today's final game is between the Sudbury Wolves & the Oshawa Generals — a hugely impactful game for both teams. The Generals have been able to string together 11 straight wins, which make them the favourites as they play at home. If Oshawa wins today, they will play the Barrie Colts in the first round.
In the Western Conference, both the Erie Otters & Guelph Storm are tied in the league standings with 73 points each. If Guelph is able to beat London today on the road, they will officially take over that 5th place spot and play the Kitchener Rangers — a more favourable matchup than playing the Soo Greyhounds.
Though neither can affect each other in the standings, the Soo and Saginaw will play a meaningful game to close out the regular season. This is a likely matchup that we could see in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Both are considered serious contenders to win it all.
The OHL playoffs are just around the corner — the most exciting time of year. The playoffs will start on Thursday, March 28th at the earliest.
