A whirlwind season - performance-wise and health-wise - for Pittsburgh Penguins forward Michael Bunting continued on Thursday.
On Thursday, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan announced that Bunting will be out indefinitely after having surgery to remove his appendix.
"He'll be out here for the next little while," Sullivan said. "I don't know the timeframe at this point."
Bunting, 29, has 14 goals and 29 points in 58 games on the season. The appendectomy is just the latest in a line of unfortunate events for Bunting this season, as he was involved in a car accident outside of PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Jan. 12 that caused him to miss a game.
With Bunting out - and expected to go on injured reserve - the Penguins now have a roster spot open in order to recall a forward from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which is expected.
