The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders used a three-goal second period to skate past the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday night in both team's final preseason game. Here are my standouts and top performers from the contest.
What a preseason for Resendes, who will look to hear his name called as a re-entry candidate in the 2025 NHL Draft. The Boston College commit scored two of his three goals on feeds from Amine Hajibi. Resendes then completed the hat trick in the third period on a wicked shot after entering the offensive zone with a ton of speed. Added, Resendes finished with a team-high four shots on goal.
Just one shot on goal for Hajibi, but the Northeastern commit picked up a pair of assists, both coming on Resendes' goals. Hajibi finished the preseason with six points on two goals and four assists in three games played.
Guimond has looked solid all preseason, and Saturday night was no different. The Detroit Red Wings draft pick turned aside 24-of-25, including all 10 in the first period during Des Moines' strong push out of the gate. Guimond finished the preseason with a 1.67 GAA and a .940 save percentage in three games.
Kevan provided the lone goal for Des Moines, and the Arizona State commit will look to build off an impressive rookie season last year. Kevan stripped the puck in the Riders' defensive zone and scored at the other end on the breakaway for his first goal of the preseason. He finished with three shots on goal.
