The message coming out of Ottawa Charge practice this morning was clear: two wins before the break were big—but the job is far from over.
Fresh off two crucial wins before the PWHL's international break, the Ottawa Charge returned to the ice this week with a clear mindset: stay sharp, stay ready, and finish strong.
“We know that we have a job to do when they come back,” said forward Rebecca Leslie. “We need to make sure that we’re ready to go for the last three games of the year. They’re going to be really important games for us, so we have to be ready and at the level of the girls coming back [from Worlds].”
With many of their teammates still competing at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, the Charge have used the time to fine-tune their game and keep momentum rolling. The team currently sits fourth in the standings, holding a one-point lead over Minnesota and just one point back of third-place Boston—with every game left on the schedule carrying major playoff implications.
“I think continuing to focus on our details that really matter for our game,” said centre Gabbie Hughes. “For me as a centre, continuing to focus on draws and my speed especially on breakouts. We just need to keep focused on those key details to stay ready and be able to come back strong.”
The Charge return to action at home on April 26th, when they host the league-leading Montreal Victoire with playoff aspirations within their grasp.
