The Calder Cup was first awarded in 1937. One year later, the Hershey Bears joined the league, and they've won 11 Calder Cup championships since. They now take on the newest AHL team in the anticipated final round of the 2022-23 playoffs, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Jacob Stoller and Patrick Williams preview the series on this episode of The Hockey News On The 'A' Podcast.
- The Bears and Firebirds kick off the final on Thursday night. Patrick and Jacob look at how either team can win it all while looking at some of the Washington Capitals and Seattle Kraken prospects playing in the series.
- The Anaheim Ducks named Greg Cronin as their new coach after spending five years as the coach of the Colorado Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. The guys discuss why Cronin could be the perfect coach to help the Ducks' young core — highlighted by Trevor Zegras, Mason McTavish and Jamie Drysdale — take the next step.
- The AHL announces its first-ever all-prospects team. Patrick and Jacob discuss the seasons of each of the players named to the team: Tyson Foerster, Jiri Kulich, Lukas Reichel, David Jiricek, Simon Nemec and Jesper Wallstedt.
