Milwaukee Admirals winger Reid Schaefer has been suspended one game for charging, the AHL's Player Safety Committee announced Thursday.
The incident resulting in the suspension took place during the first period of Game 3 as Schaefer hit Stars' defenseman Luke Krys. Schaefer received a charging penalty as well as a game misconduct and will not be eligible to play in Game 4 tonight.
Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft, Schaefer was traded to the Predators in the deal that saw the Oilers acquire Mattias Ekholm.
A native of Edmonton, Alta., Schaefer is in his first season of professional hockey with the Admirals. In 63 games during the regular season, Schaefer scored seven goals and added 14 assists for 21 points. In three playoff games so far, Schaefer has been held pointless.
Prior to joining the Admirals, Schaefer played parts of four seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL, where he had 60 goals and 62 assists for 122 points in 146 games.
With the Admirals hoping to keep their season alive, losing Schaefer isn't ideal for Karl Taylor and his staff. If the Admirals come away with the win and tie the series, Schaefer can return to the lineup in Game 5 - which would take place Sunday evening.
