The Bakersfield Condors, affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, became the fourth team eliminated from the AHL Playoffs Saturday at the hands of the Ontario Reign.
The victims of a two-game sweep, the Condors struggled to gain any offensive momentum as the two games ended in 5-1 and 3-1 losses.
The Condors had a solid regular season, finishing with 84 points and 16th in league standings but failed to replicate that in the playoffs.
Jack Campbell, who started the season with the Oilers but was sent down after struggling mightily, most likely wants to forgot this season and move on. In the one game he suited up for the Condors, the Port Huron, MI., native let in five goals on 35 shots, good for an .857 SV%.
With every other series having split at least one game each, the Condors became the last possible team with the chance of being swept in the first round.
While the Reign's second round opponent is still unknown, the team looks destined to be a tough out. With talented players such as Brandt Clarke, Tyler Madden, Akin Thomas and Alex Turcotte, the Reign got contributions from 10 different players over the course of their two-game series.
The Reign will play the winner of the Abbotsford Canucks and Colorado Eagles series in the Pacific Division Semifinals.
