The Boston Bruins have re-signed defenseman Ian Mitchell to a one-year, two-way extension, the team announced Sunday.
The deal will see Mitchell make $775,000 if he is at the NHL level.
A product of St. Albert, Alb., Mitchell split this past season with Boston and Providence. In 13 regular season games with Boston, he collected two assists. With Providence, Mitchell scored six goals and added 18 assists for 24 points in 42 regular season games.
With Providence making the Calder Cup playoffs, Mitchell saw playoff action and collected four points in four playoff games.
Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Mitchell spent parts of three seasons with the Blackhawks before being dealt to the Bruins in the trade that saw Taylor Hall join Chicago.
While Mitchell has shown flashes of what he can do at the NHL level, he is still trying to establish himself as an everyday player. While it is expected that the Bruins will bolster their defense in free agency, Mitchell could be someone who establishes himself if he has a strong training camp with the team.
