Punnett is in his first season of pro hockey
The Dallas Stars have reassigned defenseman Connor Punnett from the Texas Stars to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, it was reported Friday.
Although he has been recalled to Texas, Punnett has only seen time with the Steelheads this season, collecting three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 40 games. Prior to making the jump to the pro level this year, Punnett spent parts of four seasons in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit, Barrie Colts and the Oshawa Generals.
Over that time span, Punnett established himself as a solid player across the OHL, putting up 32 goals and 88 assists for 120 points in 247 career regular season games.
With Punnett being assigned back to the ECHL, he will continue to have the opportunity to gain experience and earn himself another AHL look. As someone who makes good decisions with the puck, Punnett impressed Stars management enough to earn an entry-level deal last season and could be on the radar to make the jump full time to the AHL in the near future.
