
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced they have hired Brad Malone as an assistant coach.
Malone began the season as a development coach with the OHL's Oshawa Generals before being named interim head coach on Dec. 9.
The 36-year-old had a 23-11-3-1 regular season record after taking over before leading the team to a 13-8 playoff record and the OHL Finals where they eventually fell to the London Knights.
Malone retired from professional hockey at the end of the 2023-24 season and transitioned immediately into coaching.
In parts of 12 AHL seasons with the Bakersfield Condors, Chicago Wolves, Hershey Bears, and Lake Erie Monsters, Malone recorded 105 goals and 291 points in 552 games.
A fourth round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, Malone had 14 goals and 32 points in 217 career NHL games with the Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers.
The Miramichi, NB., native won the USHL's Clark Cup in 2007, was a 2010 and 2011 NCAA WCHA Champion with the university of North Dakota and served as captains for the Bakersfield COndors from 2020-24.
