The Charlotte Checkers announced they have signed defenseman Eamon Powell to a one-year AHL contract that begins next season, he will join the team on a professional tryout (PTO) from the remainder of the season.

Powell captained the Boston College Eagles and recorded four goals and 20 points in 32 games this season.

The 22-year-old finishes his four-year NCAA career with 16 goals and 103 points in 176 games, finishing as Boston College's leader in all-time games played.

Originally a fourth round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, Powell was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2021, as well as the All-Tournament Team and Second All-Star Team in 2024.

On top of captaining the Eagles for two seasons Powell won the Hockey East Len Ceglarski Award for Sportsmanship last season.

Powell will have a great opportunity to gain professional experience as the Checkers have already qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs.
